Reviews (Excerpts)
- "The story was amazing and it was so well constructed. I loved how the twists and turns took the story to new heights. The dialogues showed so much more about the characters and showed how vital each and every one of them was. I enjoyed the smooth flow of the story. The action was intense, and the emotions were too. I could feel what Jared was feeling. I could feel his fear, his energy and his own desire to fight on. Radioactive Evolution is a wonderful and very entertaining reading experience." - Rabia Tanveer
- "Richard Hummel has created a fantastical adventure that is so visceral it feels real, and overall I'd definitely recommend Radioactive Evolution to all readers of dark science fiction, post apocalyptic and dystopian worlds" - K.C. Finn
- "Radioactive Evolution features an exciting world, a plot that keeps moving, and a fun twist on the typical GameLit phenomenon. Overall, I thought it was an enjoyable romp in a Post-apocalyptic future. I'm already looking forward to seeing where Hummel goes from here!" - LitRPG Reviews
- "It is November, and I have read dozens of books this year. I hadn't come across one I'd call my favourite book of the year until I read Radioactive Evolution by Richard Hummel. It is an unusual mix of fantasy, dystopia, coming of age, adventure, and a little bit of (gentle) horror. I didn't expect to be drawn into this novel after reading the description, but once I started, I was hooked. I just couldn't put it down." - Kim Anisi
About the Author
Author Richard Hummel |
So, how did he get started writing? It all started with an emerging genre called LitRPG. The first book he ever picked up was a Russian to English translation of Play to Live by D. Rus. It is a fantasy/sci-fi/cyberpunk mashup that incorporates gaming with the normal fantasy/sci-fi tropes. The gaming is often in the form of fully immersive virtual reality, but in some cases the game elements take place in the real world, or the main character is transported into a world where gaming mechanics are a way of life.
The tickle to write started after devouring nearly 400 books in this genre over the course of a year. Richard got to the point he started sharing character, plot, and world-building ideas with other authors in various Facebook groups. It was in these groups that a couple authors encouraged and pushed him to start writing some of these things down.
It is somewhat poetic that the day he started writing November 16th, 2017, is the same day a year later that he published his first novel. Coincidentally, it's the same date he's aiming for to wrap up his first ever series (trilogy) in 2019.
The rest, as they say, is history.
