Taylor Marie: My writing background mainly consisted of poems, one of which was published as a collaboration with other poets called, “Out, In”. While stationed overseas, I became heavily involved in writing plays and I penned a book loosely based on my mother’s life, on a million pieces of loose leaf paper.
Unfortunately, I lost those loose pages; probably a sign that my mother isn’t ready for her story to be told…just yet.
Who are your favorite writers, your favorite books, and who or what are your writing influences?
My favorite writers are legends like Alice Walker and Danielle Steel. I will never forget the overwhelming feeling I had when I finished reading “Possessing the Secret of Joy” in 1992. I had just moved to Germany and that book opened my eyes to the plight of African women suffering from female genital mutilation. Other times, I would escape with a Danielle Steel novel and anxiously waited until that novel became a movie and aired on the only English speaking channel we had; Armed Forces Network.
When did you first know that you wanted to be a writer?
I’ve loved books since an early age but it wasn’t until around 2008 that stories would just start forming in my head. Being a military spouse, I had to put the desire to pen a book on the back burner until 2014.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Yes, I remember my first story that I lost in Germany over 25 years ago but it was my first play of many that I wrote that literally caused a standing ovation, “The Upper Room”.
Tell us about your writing process. Do you have a writing routine?
Working full time, part-time Grad student and a mother of four, my routine is pretty sporadic but when the writing bug hits me, I write. Usually late at night or weekends. I ban all social media on Sundays and usually write after dinner. Sometimes, ideas will hit me while driving or walking and I will record them with my phone.
Please, describe your desk/workplace.
Nothing fancy. My home has an office that allows me to escape from the family and television. I prefer to write on our MAC desktop but I find myself grabbing my laptop or writing at work which you already knows…causes havoc when it’s time to format.

What do you find easiest about writing? What the hardest?
Easiest, writing from experiences. Hardest, writing without going back and trying to edit at the same time. Ugh!
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Seeing a person’s face light up and say, “You wrote this?” That’s probably second to holding your own paperback in your hand. The feeling is exhilarating!
Taylor, please tell us a little about your Romance Novel Loving Infidelity.
Loving Infidelity is a story about a couple who grew up together as children and eventually lost touch over the years. They reunite, date and then marry. Faithful is a Captain in the Army and Fidelity is climbing the corporate ladder for an environmental firm while stationed in Europe. In spite of their successes, they both bring issues from their childhood into their marriage but as in most relationships, the pain is masked by the busyness of life. Fidelity succumbs to the passions of her co-worker and has an affair while Faithful is having an affair of his own; porn and alcohol addiction. Twenty years later, her past comes back to haunt her when a stranger shows up and runs interference and invites rivalry and sexual jealously. As strange as it seems, it’s a story of loyalty and strange love that lives in the midst of physical and mental abuse, where loving infidelity is the only option.

What inspired you to write the book?
The story had been on my mind for about 4 years but never made the time to it down on paper. On January 1, 2014, I sat down and started writing. I wanted to prove to myself that I could finish what I started. I didn’t tell anyone that I was writing.

Who do you see as your target audience?
I would love to reach the avid readers who read outside of their normal genre and give Indie/new authors a chance. To look beyond the cover and embrace the content and tell somebody. Readers who love to read and will write a review; good, bad or indifferent.
“Why do women stay in unhealthy relationships?”
What makes your novel special?
This novel speaks on issues that go on behind closed doors that are often not addressed. It was therapy for me and hope that it answers the daunting question, “Why do women stay in unhealthy relationships?”
How would you describe the success of your self-published books so far?
I am proud of its success so far; however, when the newness wore off and all of my friends and family are done talking about it, it’s time to think outside the box.

Can you give some advice for other Authors regarding the writing process?
Learn from others, read the work of other authors in your genre and pay for quality (book cover, editing, formatting, etc.)
Are you working on another book project? Can you tell us a little about it?
Yes, I am currently writing two books somewhat simultaneously (if that’s even possible). It’s a short story called, ‘If These Walls Could Talk’. It’s a coming of age short story about a college student who finds a “creative” way to put herself through college. The other is a romantic thriller and it will be a full-length novel.
Where do you see the book market in 5 or 10 years? Will there be only eBooks and will book stores disappear like record stores disappeared?
I don’t believe that eBooks will become a thing of the past; however, I believe that existing bookstores like Barnes & Noble will maintain longevity. When my book was published last August, I assumed everyone read on a tablet in some format (Kindle, Nook, iPad, iBooks, etc.) I was wrong. Most of my customers wanted a paperback or hard-cover and many of them didn’t know that you could download the Kindle app for FREE.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
Kindle, I own 3 of them.
Do you write full-time or do you have a day job? When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
No, I don’t write full-time. I work full-time as a Logistics Specialist so I spend most of my days coordinating travel for the US Army. In my spare time, I am a Jazzercise addict. I love to read, spend time with family and cooking large Sunday dinners. I’m in Grad school so I don’t watch much television but when I do, I binge on Law & Order: SVU episodes.
