Interview with Christie Palmer
Author Christie Palmer |
Christie Palmer: I’ve been writing since I was a teenager. But I’ve been a published author since 2012 my first book Shadow Play was published in Oct. of that year. My second book was published in 2013. I’ve always been obsessed with the written word.
Who are your favorite writers, your favorite books, and who or what are your writing influences?
My favorite writers from my teenage years were: Mercedes Lackey, Tamora Pierce, Meredith Ann Pierce and her The Darkangle Trilogy changed my life.
Today I love so many different writers and authors.
When did you first know that you wanted to be a writer?
When I was a teenager I loved to read and write but after reading Meredith Ann Pierce’s Darkangel Trilogy I new I wanted to be a writer.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
I wrote a short story for school about a magical silver cup and a prince. I still have it written out in long hand saved in a trunk in my closet. Every once in while I pull it out and take a look at it to remind me how far I have come.
"[...] my characters drive the storylines."
Tell us about your writing process. Do you have a writing routine?
I have tried to plot my novels, and I’ve tried to take notes so that my stores are drown out. I’ve done so many different techniques it would make you head spin. But when it comes down to I just have to sit down and write, my characters drive the storylines. I try and write 2k a day, but I am weird in that if the characters aren’t speaking to me, or the urge to write isn’t there I can’t force myself to write. I really drive myself to write everyday but I honestly won’t force it.
Please, describe your desk/workplace.
I write on a laptop, because I like to move around the house. I used to have a desk set up in the corner of my living room but I never sat there. So I just have a seat on the couch and that is where I sit and write. I do sit and write in my bedroom in a chair.
"I just love it when fans let me know how much the enjoy my books."
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
I just love it when fans let me know how much the enjoy my books. Or tell me when they have bought my books that they found something funny or interesting. I can’t get enough of that.
Christie, please tell us a little about your Paranormal Romance Novel Reaper Mine.
This is a gritty book about a Reaper who falls for the one thing he shouldn’t. This isn’t your typical Reaper novel, this is a standout novel.

What inspired you to write the book?
After my second book: Lost In Time, I was trying to decide what I should be writing. And I asked my beta’s what I should write next and the consensus was Victor’s story. So that is what I did.
Who do you see as your target audience?
I like to think my target audience is anyone who likes to read. Anyone who likes a good romance with a happy every after ending. Anyone who likes a gritty hard alpha hero with a soft side for an alpha female.
"Being an indie-published author is a marathon and not a sprint."
How would you describe the success of your self-published books so far?
Being an indie-published author is a marathon and not a sprint. My books are standing up to the test of time. I am building my fan base, and they are wonderful and I am always looking for more.
Can you give some advice for other Authors regarding the writing process?
If you take the time to self-publish you need to understand that it is a marathon and it takes time. Keep writing! Keep promoting! Stay in touch with your fans!
Are you working on another book project? Can you tell us a little about it?
Reaper Mine is book 3, and I am half way through with writing book 4 I plan on being done with it by the end of Sept. So my fans can look forward to seeing it out by Feb or March of 2016. All I can say is that it is another Reaper novel.
"Bookworms love their physical books [...]"
Where do you see the book market in 5 or 10 years? Will there be only eBooks and will book stores disappear like record stores disappeared?
I see eBooks continuing topping out in the next couple of years. But I don’t think that physical books will ever disappear. Bookworms love their physical books, I am a bookworm and I own a tablet but I will never ever give up on building my own personal library, and I think true bookworms feel the same way.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
I personally own a Galaxy tablet that way I can download all the eBook formats I just need the app. I know it’s weird but I don’t have to just use Amazon or Barnes and Noble or Kobo. I can buy from any of them.
Do you write full-time or do you have a day job? When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I have a full-time day job, and write part time. But one day I want to be a full time writer. (Isn’t that every writers dream?)

Victor is the Reaper over Violence he doesn’t do warm and fuzzy. He definitely doesn’t do damsel in distress. But apparently Dante didn’t get that memo. And Elle was most defiantly a damsel in distress.
Now he only needs to can keep her alive long enough to find out who wants to kill her? And why the hell did the Tribunal want her so badly?
She was a demi-goddess. A cursed demi-goddess, who had accidentally bound her soul to the Reaper over Violence in order to save her butt from a Freak trying to kill her in a graveyard.
Elle was having a really bad day.
- "I greatly enjoyed this story. I was drawn in right away, and the book held my attention all the way through. There was a great mix of action and romance and the story absolutely drew me in. I also liked the characters, though Elle annoyed me a lot in the beginning of the book. However, once she started standing up for herself, I found myself rooting for her throughout the rest of the book.[...]" - Reader Review
