About the Book
What could be more idyllic than to live on an island off the coast of Maine? At least that's what Bill Andersen thought when he moved his family to Mateguas. But Mateguas is not just pristine beaches nestled between rocky shores. No, Mateguas is something quite different.
On a remote island, a troubled family is trying to pick up the pieces of their shattered lives and start over. But, unbeknownst to them, the property they have inherited is shrouded in ancient magic - magic that could seek to destroy and devour them.
An arcane locked box, a strange and foreboding trail into the woods, a seductive young woman and tales of a malevolent Indian spirit are just some of the perils Karen Andersen must face in order to find a way to save her family.
A spine-tingling tale filled with passion, lies and betrayal, Mateguas Island will have you sleeping with the lights on!

Reviews (Excerpts)
- "'Mateguas Island' by Linda Watkins is well-written, full of terror and suspense, as advertised. Fans of the genre will get a satisfying read. I received a complimentary copy early this morning and thought I would just look the book over. I planned to read it later, as I had other books on my reading list ahead of this one. Once I got started, I couldn't put this book down. This is the kind of book that immediately engages your attention and holds it.[...]" - Thomas Baker
- "[...] Linda Watkins ‘Mateguas Island’ makes for a mesmerising read, well-crafted and deftly woven through with Native American folklore, poignancy and drama as well as a constant undercurrent of suspense, which hums throughout the whole sequence of events the Andersen family find themselves embroiled in.
Watkins has a fine grasp on character development and all of these are wonderfully realised creations, fallible and prone to indiscretions, but that is what makes them so real and so human, easy with the reader to identify with them and even understand why they make some of the decisions they do." - Jim Goforth
- "[...] The story moves effortlessly and has the most wonderful twist when it is discovered that the new beginning on Mateguas Island is also the beginning of dark suspenseful horrors, which embroil the family. I so enjoyed this book. The character development was excellent, the story gripped me, and the writing skills of Ms Watkins were superb. " - Jana Petken
- "MATEGUAS ISLAND has it all - magic, ancient legends, peril, suspense, and true love - all woven together in a tight thriller that will keep you sitting up late at night, unable to put it down. The heroine of the novel, Karen, is a bit of a spoiled princess at the beginning and it was fun to see her grow into a character of strength and fortitude. The paranormal elements in Watkins' work build slowly keeping the reader on edge until finally reaching an unexpected climax. MATEGUAS ISLAND was an exciting read and I highly recommend it!" - Susan Tarr
- "[...]In weaving her tale of suspense and drama, Watkins portrays her characters and the intricacies of their relationships in a manner that intensifies the reader's emotional attachment to each. Readers' efforts to analyze the underlying psychology of these interrelationships are thwarted when they are forcibly reminded that the island spirits are alive and well! This novel is a great read!" - Stephanie (Amazon)
