About the Book
A father sets out on a 5000-mile road trip, the one he never had the guts to take as a young man, the one he hopes will spark a new chapter in his life. But the once-delayed journey now takes on new meaning when he’s forced to confront his family’s unsettled past, and face the reality that every man, including his own two sons, will eventually compare his life with the fathers who came before him.
Chicago writer - David W. Berner - takes to the road for a journey he hopes will rekindle a level of inspiration. After re-reading Jack Kerouac’s On the Road - the iconic American road trip story and the book he cherished as a teenager - he finds himself confronting an unexpected examination of his place in the world and the most important role of his life - fatherhood.
Any Road Will Take You There: A Journey of Fathers and Sons is a heartwarming and heartbreaking story told with humor and grace, revealing the generational struggles and triumphs of being a dad, and the beautiful but imperfect ties that connect all of us.

Reviews (Excerpts)
- "David Berner's writings share familiar threads of warmth and humor and humanity, and nowhere is this clearer than in Any Road Will Get You There. Berner takes to the open road to follow in Jack Kerouac's legendary footloose travels chronicled in the classic On the Road, a book that made a lasting impression on Berner as a young man and a young writer. But Kerouac never made the trip with two teenaged sons, a rented RV, and the bittersweet perspective that comes with middle age and the tread marks of experience. A beautiful reflection on fathers and sons, and tempered dreams, and the imperfect ties that bind us. And a heartwarming reminder that so often what we're really yearning for from the depth of our hearts is already within arm's reach. " - Mary T Wagner
- "David W. Berner's "Any Road Will Get You There" takes you on a heartwarming journey to find one's self. Taking his cue from Jack Kerouac's classic, "On the Road," the author sets out in an RV for places he'd read about all his life and makes them into his own personal story - one about the generational bonds of fathers and sons. This is a trip well worth taking, and one you won't soon forget. " -Randy Richardson
- "[...] There is an experiential richness in this book, and it was hard to put down. I loved the humor and the authors effortless weave of stories, past and resent. There is the underlying truth that parents, in this case fathers, are not so much in control of their efforts as they are indeed products of the parenting done to them.
This is not a book only for fathers and sons, anybody would be able to relate to the stories in this book. A wonderful read." - T. Holli
