About the Book
Nathan Hassall's second book, A Conscious Void, is a brand new journey for both the writer and reader alike.
Leafing through the pages of prose, poetry, and occasional philosophy, we sail into work that has brought great challenges along the way; with heartfelt empathy and care, each piece has been tirelessly crafted to the smallest of details so that no meaning or message is ever lost. Godless space and time, the bitter-sweet Heaven of therapy, the undeniable hypocrisy of our most deeply held ideals; all is part of the extensive collage of questions and answers that appear in A Conscious Void.
With surrealism, humour and cold cynicism, Nathan Hassall has created a very modern approach to poetry and prose, and perhaps most importantly - in an age when our greatest thinkers fear that Philosophy is dead - an accessible but daringly unique way to keep our minds from a dull, technology-induced slumber.
Read between the lines, between the lines we draw in our minds and are too fearful to cross.

Reviews (Excerpts)
- “I really loved “Nascent Illusion” (if you haven’t read it, read it NOW!), so I had high hopes for its follow-up, “A Conscious Void”. I have to say that while there was definitely some differences between the two, most notably in the more serious, darker tone of this one (I found the first to have more “humor” if you will), for some reason I think I liked this one even better. Mr. Hassall is clearly an amazing writer; there is no doubt about that. But I thought the poetry was nothing short of mind blowing. I could read “The Bigger Picture” over and over again. I can’t recommend this book highly enough. If you want to experience some top-tier writing with a darkly genius narrative, this is the book for you” - Kaley (Goodreads)
- “I think what I like the most about reading Nathan Hassell’s books is how he can write about something that may seem quite ordinary or even simple, yet beneath the surface there are layers of subtext and hidden meanings. I would LOVE to see a book like this discussed in a college lit class, or maybe even a book club. Maybe it’s because I feel the need to talk about it with someone. Powerful, elegant, vivid writing coupled with a wicked imagination and fierce intelligence is a recipe for a book unlike any other that I won’t soon forget. Highly recommend to fans of literary fiction and poetry, but even if those aren’t your usual genres you will probably be amazed by “A Conscious Void”. I know I was!” - Jenna (Goodreads)
- “OMG what did I just read? That was freakin AWESOME! Ha! I’m not even a real big fan of poetry, but my friend told me that I’d love it and she was right! Ok, “Fighting Fruit” may be the best poem of all time! I love how this author’s mind works (or scared to death…either, or…) and I’m so glad I gave this book a shot. There are short stories that read like a surreal stream of consciousness, but one outside the normal reality, if you know what I mean. I’m going to get my hands on the other book “Nascent Illusion” now because I totally want to read more from Nathan Hassall now! ” - Claire (Goodreads)
About the Author
Author Nathan Hassall |
Hassall tends to write shorter work: poetry, flash fiction, and philosophical blurbs are often the product of hours spent in front of his computer.
Nathan’s inspiration derives frequently from non-fictional work, resulting in fiction rich in factual elements and honest sentiment. Philosophy, psychology and neuroscience, physics, history and sociology tend to feature in and greatly influence his work. Conveying emotion, cynicism, and humor throughout his work, the blend of human interest academic thinking creates an interesting mix of genre and stylistic delivery.
In his short experience so far with being an author, Nathan hopes to become a recognized name in the writing world.
