About the Book
Mother Nature had been sending signs for three years, but most didn’t pay attention until she pulled the plug on everything. Nobody will forget where they were and what they were doing at 8:13 on that morning. They’re all still waiting for 8:14. Well, at least the ones that have made it so far.
He was stuck in Atlanta traffic, making his way to work, when the world fell silent. His car, his radio, his phone, his watch, anything that needed a spark, a battery, or an outlet died. The silence didn’t last long and neither did she. He didn’t know if the yellow sundress was the first to die, but he does know that she wasn’t the last. Not even close.

As aircraft fell out of the sky, panicked drivers lost control in the fast lane, and pace makers stopped keeping their rhythms, he got out of his car and popped the trunk. Most didn’t pay attention, but he did. And he knew what was coming.
Three years earlier during the first city-wide blackout in Atlanta, he lost his Samantha to cowards who were never caught. Those looking to take advantage didn’t hesitate, wreaking havoc at every opportunity. It took less than an hour after the event for society to start its disintegration.
He made a promise to himself never to feel that helpless again. He wasn’t a soldier or a cop, but he was one of the few that did have a plan. Get out of the city, get away from people, and don’t hesitate.
May God have mercy on their souls, because he won’t.
Reviews (Excerpts)
- “Unbelievably, Borton has done it again! Many authors have attempted to capture the circumstances surrounding what they think a post-apocalyptic society would be like, but no other author has accomplished this with the impeccable attention to detail and the adrenaline-fueled, mind-bending, page turning talent quite like E. E. Borton. From the first page to the last, I was unable to remove myself from the grip of suspense and terror unknown to the main character. Borton's abilities to transform a simple thought into a literary masterpiece are vastly overshadowed by his gut-wrenching ability to completely immerse you in the details of the story - as if the intent were to invite you into the storyline to experience every ounce of heartwarming triumph and spirit crushing defeat for yourself. - “What would YOU do if time suddenly stopped and you were pushed to the very limits of survival? Would you steal for it? Kill for it? Hide from it or face it head-on? WITHOUT grips you with these questions from the first chapter and holds you firmly in place for a stare-down with your worst nightmare. You'll find yourself caught up in the lives of the characters, as layer after layer of human nature is peeled away, revealing the raw emotion and lengths one would might take, simply to survive. As each chapter twists and turns at warp speed, you'll gasp, cry, seethe with anger, laugh and cheer as the human spirit battles good and evil, terror and triumph throughout the story. It's a nail-biter from beginning to end, a must read! With superbly written chapters and characters, EE Borton has proven, yet again, he has mastered his craft. Well done, EE!” - Melanie (Amazon)
- “A moving story of a post apocalypse, though from natural causes, occurring in northern Georgia, which took me through 2 months of survival of not only the fittest, but the most willing to survive. An excellent read that changed course several times but each change kept me eager to follow the characters path as he strived to keep his "plan", a plan that got better with each change. Looking forward to the next book from this writer!” - Mr. H (Amazon)
About the Author
Author E. E. Borton |
I followed in my father’s footsteps and joined the military after school. I served six years with Naval Intelligence in North Africa, Southern Europe, and the Middle East. As a civilian, I served thirteen years with a rescue helicopter service in Atlanta, Georgia, where I currently live. It’s also the place where I made the life changing decision to pursue my passion for telling stories.
I finished my first novel in February of 2010. It was huge at well over 400 pages. It’s also when I learned the first difficult lesson of my writing career. Sometimes you just have to put a manuscript in a drawer and start over. I believe it’s what separates the novice from the professional. A novel isn’t your baby, it’s a product. And if you try and release a substandard product, the market will respond quickly, completely, and without mercy.
Two weeks after I closed the drawer – and the excruciating pain of staring at another blank screen subsided – I started my next book. Abomination was released in March of 2011. It’s simply a better product and something of which I’m proud to attach my name. My second novel, Suffer, was released in November of the same year. My third, Without, was released in September of 2012.
This is just the beginning of my writing life. It’s not what I do, it’s who I am."
