Interview with Brian Ray
Author Brian Ray |
Brian Ray: When I was younger I would dabble in various types of storytelling, but this never ventured beyond the compositions and term papers that were required in various English classes for school. Then, in the first several years of my business career, I wrote technical and training manuals for the courses I was teaching at the various companies where I was also consulting.
Over time those and other continuing business experiences led to the inspiration to begin writing non-fiction books and articles.
Who are your favorite writers, your favorite books, and who or what are your writing influences?
Classic novels have always been my favorite. My favorite authors would be Alexandre Dumas, Charles Dickens, and Mark Twain.
When did you first know that you wanted to be a writer?
It actually was known to me at a very young age, probably about 8 or 9, that at some point I would be writing professionally. It just took time for everything to come together at the right moment for it to become viable.
"[...] start writing down everything that comes to mind."
Tell us about your writing process. Do you have a writing routine?
No, I really do not have a routine. When inspiration strikes, I simply run over to the computer and start writing down everything that comes to mind.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
The greatest joy comes from simply being able to help and inspire people with the knowledge and direction they need to create positive experiences for themselves.
This in turn then helps them create more positive environments for the world at large, moving everyone forward in the best possible ways.
Brian, please tell us a little about your Business Non-Fiction Book Revelations Incorporated.
This book exposes the "Sociopathic Beast" that is the business world itself. The illusions, toxicity, and realities of business that universities and training courses are too afraid to cover, and that the media largely ignores or glosses over.
Universities, Business schools, and Corporate training courses can all provide any budding entrepreneur, business student or professional with sound theory; but the toxic realities and illusions perpetuated by the business world are often swept under the classroom’s carpet, or are ignored entirely. Many companies’ efforts to hide and manipulate the truth is directly responsible for the majority of problematic issues that business professionals face on a daily basis. This gripping new book tells the truth of what really goes on in business world. It is an attempt to wake up the wider world in general to the fact that things must be done differently.

It all begins with companies creating environments of fear and control; something many business professionals learn the hard way, with no prior warning. From workplace bullying and customer vendettas to shocking corporate manipulation, the book shows business students, entrepreneurs, professionals and the general world the fact that new and dynamic changes in workplace culture and Corporate perspectives are needed. Parallels can be found in Government, Academics, Health Care, etc. These scenarios occur across the board in one form or another, regardless of industry.
After showcasing the true fabric of the business world, I share several insights, techniques, and real life case studies from my own experiences, direct observations, and the mentoring I both gave & received in my career that can be used by other professionals to help with many of the issues that they may face in their careers. With two-plus decades in business at all levels, I am able to share many different perspectives that will resonate with readers across every industry.
The time is now, and both our current and next-generation business leaders can champion this change if they understand then embrace the truth, utilize more effective approaches, and take action to create a better world.
" It’s the 21st century and it’s time for the business world to change in positive ways."
What inspired you to write the book?
Well, I enjoy doing things that people say can’t be done, and after 20+ years in the field, I realized that the truth of the business world is something that needed to be brought to light. A daunting task, to say the least, but I never back down from a challenge. Being a seeker of truth, plus having both experienced personally, and been a witness to many workplace struggles and drama that could have been avoided if the knowledge & insight of those situations had been available beforehand, I realized something had to be done. So, I made the resolution that it was time to wake up the world to the truth of what has been happening for years in the workplace, and provide perspective on how to improve it for everyone. It’s the 21st century and it’s time for the business world to change in positive ways.
Who do you see as your target audience and where can we buy the book?
The target audience is anyone who has ever had, or will have a job, it’s all encompassing. The topics presented within the text reach across all industries in multiple ways, and ultimately everyone will find the majority of the content relatable to their own experiences.
Additionally, students of business will find the insights extremely valuable before they begin their adventures out in the real world. Being forewarned will give them more confidence and help them to avoid unpleasant surprises. A type of preparation that no University course truly covers.
The book is currently available in paperback & eBook (Click here to Read an Excerpt) on Amazon.
What makes your book special?
It focuses on topics that are rarely addressed. There really is no other book out there quite like it.
How long did it take it to write the book?
It took about six months.
"Don’t stand in your own way by over-thinking [...]"
Can you give some advice for other Authors regarding the writing process?
Don’t stand in your own way by over-thinking, and above all don’t force it. Remember to let your thoughts flow freely, that is the essence of creativity. If inspiration strikes you for a particular topic or idea, don’t analyze it, just start writing it down and worry about the organization & editing afterward once all your thoughts are captured.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
The Kindle.
Do you write full-time or do you have a day job? When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Currently, I do have a day job consulting within the IT industry.
In my free time, I enjoy walking/playing with my dog, and practicing the martial arts, with the primary style being Kenpo.
Also, I am finishing my third year of voice training at a music academy with aspirations of being a singer at some point, by blending both the modern and classical styles to create a style all my own.

About the Book Revelations Incorporated

Well the answer is that Business is a sociopathic beast. Virtually everyone working in business knows it, but few individuals are willing to admit it, and even fewer are willing to discuss it. This is the “elephant in the room” for every company & corporation, no matter what industry they operate within.
Dealing with these environments can be extremely difficult and stressful if an individual is unprepared. That is where this book can help.
This book is a guide to the truth of many business topics that are rarely discussed in training programs or school/college textbooks. It takes an objective look at the illusions that are perpetuated by companies and corporations, and the reality behind them. It also offers many techniques to deal with these scenarios, and provides the insight needed to see through the self-serving motivations of those activities.
Some of these topics include: The Ego of Corporations, How Companies Manipulate their Workforce, Bullying in the Workplace, Management Indifference, Client & Customer Vendettas, Maintaining Balance & Principles...and many more!
Brian Ray: “Let me be frank here, the attitudes and illusions in business today have turned it into an unsustainable monster. Students are not taught the realities behind these illusions, and with workers plus their respective companies suffering, something has to be done to shake things up. That’s why I wrote this book with a direct, honest tone, then added just a splash of humor – to break the silence, expose the truth and fire up a catalyst for enlightened change.
It all begins with companies creating environments of fear and control; something many business graduates learn the hard way, with no prior warning. After showcasing the true fabric of the business world, I share proposed techniques and solutions for resolving many of the issues. With two-plus decades in business I am able to share many different perspectives and hope they’ll resonate with readers across every industry. The time is now, and I firmly believe that both our current and next-generation business leaders can champion this change if they understand then embrace the truth.”
